Design, create, and publish your own app
In this two-day workshop, curious high school students take their first startup journey: they will design, build, present, and publish their own digital app. No coding or tech experience needed.
Students will learn vibe coding, a new way of creating software by working alongside AI to turn ideas into functional, well-designed apps in a surprisingly short time.
Along the way, students will brainstorm, discuss, and develop their ideas, then pitch their final projects in a showcase event with guidance from our public speaking instructors.
📍Ainslie Arts Centre, $299 for two days, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Laptop, charger, notepad, water bottle, nut-free snack and lunch.
Students will choose their own project after a guided brainstorming session. Their app could be practical, creative, or school-focused. For example, they might build a habit tracker, study planner, homework scheduler, quiz or learning app, mini-game, recipe idea generator, school event sign-up page, simple budgeting tool, music generator app, and much more.
The final apps will be accessible through a web browser. We will not publish apps directly to the Apple App Store or Google Play during the workshop, as that is a longer process students can explore afterwards if they wish.
Once you register, there will be a few easy steps for you to set up an account on the coding platform that we will be using. You can also start thinking about the kinds of projects you would like to try out.
No coding experience is needed. Students are expected to have general computer use experience and ability to type at an average speed.
We expect between 7 to 15 students to register this program.
If your child is younger, they are expected to have decent general computer knowledge and ability to type at a moderate speed. Ideally, they would also have experience using everyday tech like smartphone. Older students are also to welcome to join us, but please keep in mind that this workshop is aimed at high school students or recent graduates.
Yes, but please contact us in advance to arrange this. Additional fees will apply.
We strive to be as inclusive as possible. Please contact us to discuss special needs and we will make requested adjustments.
The camp is designed and ran by a Canberra scientist and educator Dr. Ivan Vinogradov. Other instructors are experienced tutors and passionate science degree students and graduates. All our staff members have Working with Children and Vulnerable registrations, and there is always a first aid certified instructor present.
Our planned activities are connected to one another, so for the best experience we recommend booking the 2-day experience. If you can’t attend all three days, please contact us to arrange a partial booking.
